Mother's Day

We had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend. My family came over for breakfast on Saturday morning. Laura made a delicious french toast casserole. Brody had a lot of fun playing with Grandma. Sunday was spent with Laura's family and we had a terrific time with Mimi and Papa as always.

The Breakers

We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Chase. He will be here before you know it. This past weekend we had one last mini-vacation as a family of three and it was nothing short of amazing! Laura's friend, Gina, gave us two nights at The Breakers and let me tell you it was SPECTACULAR! We were surprised at how kid-friendly it was. The resort has a really cool kid's playground, a family entertainment center with an almost unlimited amount of toys and games, and a separate kid's pool area. If you haven't been to Palm Beach, it really does feel like another world. We probably never envisioned spending the weekend at The Breakers, but if you can afford it, we would highly recommend it!

Easter Sunday

Brody had a great Easter celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. We started out the day at the early morning Mass. Then, it was on to Laura's parents' house for a brunch and Easter egg hunt with the rest of the family.

Brody's Potty Training

Near the end of January, Brody started telling us he needed to be changed, but he hadn't gone yet. So we decided after a couple of days to put him on the potty the next time he said that, and sure enough he had a BM (Laura hates all of those words) in the potty. He did this for a few weeks. We just waited for him to tell us, then we took him.

The month of February we tried to do as much as possible with him at home, but we didn't really push it much. He was still in a diaper.

Laura's spring break - She stayed home to really work on it with him and we put all the diapers away. Monday (the 14th) was great. She stayed home and put him on the potty every hour or so. He had a couple of accidents, but she kept just bringing him to the potty. Tuesday was a step back because Brody figured out that every time he has to go to the potty it takes away from his fun, so he started to fight it a little bit. He had several accidents. We were starting to wonder if it was too soon or what went wrong, but we followed John Rosemond's advice and kept at it. The rest of the week was much better, but he still wasn't coming to tell us he had to use the potty.

Brody hasn't moved to the next class where there is a potty in the room, so his teachers have been great about taking him to the potty every hour or so. The problem is that we have to send him in a pull-up because they don't potty train in his current room, so we expect a little regression during the week till he can be moved up to the next class.

This past weekend (the 26th and 27th) was a BIG step in the right direction. He only had 1 accident (while jumping on the bed with his friend Nicholas) but he stayed dry the rest of the time. It was really great because we were out and about all weekend and not just sitting at home next to the potty all day.

We give him an Annie's gummy bear every time he successfully uses the potty.

We put him in a pull-up for naps and nighttime. He usually wakes up dry at nap time, but he is still too young to be completely dry for the 12 hours at night.

All of this leads me to the following funny story about Brody:

Laura was talking to me on the phone about how Brody has been doing great with potty training and stuff, so she was going to put on Mickey Mouse for him to watch in our bedroom because the living room TV wasn't working.

She went in the other room to get the DVD and comes back into our room to see him sitting there under the blanket ready to watch.

Thomas the Train

Brody and his friends went to the Gold Coast Railroad Museum to visit Thomas & Friends. We took a ride on the train and got to play with the Thomas & Friends train sets. A fun time was had by all.
